Greece returning to the Drachma- is it a possibility?

Is this a real possibility or is it rumour and conjecture? My understanding was that even if a Eurozone country defaults it is not possible for it to return to its previous currency and also that there is no mechanism for this. But there is now widespread speculation, in and outside Greece, that this could happen.
