Why is the Illuminati running the show such a frightening concept for people?

I take comfort knowing that someone is in charge with a master plan towards world order, peace and harmony. Imagine a universal language, an international monetary system, a coding system for all transactions, equitable distribution of the planet's resources, one world religion if one chooses. What more could you ask for?
