What has the Nazi Party got against the French and the Poles?

I was seeing this movie about some escaped POW, and the POW tried to negotiate his way out, and the German said "Your German is pretty good, so is your French.", and then they shot him. And I'm part-Polish and I know the Germans and the Polish don't get along like a house on fire, particularly over WW2. Lol, it's like we're from two different planets.
